Considering Tiger Woods has never even come back from a single shot down after three rounds to win a major championship, his five-shot deficit entering tomorrow’s final round of the British Open seems to be too much to overcome.
Woods managed an even-par round of 70 at Royal Lytham and St. Annes today, but Adam Scott shot 68 to move to 11 under for the tournament, four shots ahead of Graeme McDowll and Brandt Snedker and five shots ahead of Woods.
Scott played what I would call very aggressive golf on the day, while Woods may have been overly conservative. Woods will want to be more aggressive tomorrow, but forecast winds of 25 mph may make that impossible.
Snedeker came back down to earth after two almost perfect rounds of golf Thursday and Friday. Snedeker had to hole a long putt on the final hole just to shoot 3-over 73. It will be Snedeker playing with Woods tomorrow, while McDowell will play with Scott in the last group of the day.
Overall, I think it was a bit of adisappointing day for Woods, who never took advantage of calm conditions to make a run at the leader. And now he is looking at 17 consecutive majors since his last major win at the 2008 U.S.Open.
